Education minister Nick McKim has announced that the 20
"hit-list" schools are safe - for now.
"We are no longer proceeding any further with our current process to
close up to 20 schools," Mr McKim said following today's Cabinet
meeting.
"All schools will operate as planned next year, 2012."
Mr McKim apologised for the anxiety the process had caused: "We got this
process wrong."
However he indicated there could be school closures in the future,
announcing that an improved consultation process would commence.
The question that now arises is: what new cuts will be made to provide
the savings that were to have come from the closing of all the schools?
