coronavirus cases in the north and north west have taken
Tasmania's total to 221. Two deaths today have taken the
total number of deaths from coronavirus to 13.

An illegal medical workers' dinner
party may have contributed to the coronavirus outbreak in north
west Tasmania, chief medical officer Professor Brendan Murphy
says. However, such a
rumour had previously been denied by Tasmanian premier Peter
Gutwein. In today's 11.00am briefing, the premier said that
so far the contact tracing did not suggest a dinner party as a
source of the outbreak but nevertheless the rumour would be
investigated.

Two hospitals will be closed and a
major retail tightening will be implemented in Tasmania's north
west.
An outbreak of the coronavirus is forcing the restrictions on
businesses in the following municipalities from midnight tonight
(Sun 12 Apr 2020): Latrobe, Kentish, Devonport, Circular
Head, Burnie, Wynyard-Waratah, Central Coast, West Coast.
Over a thousand people who are hospital staff or their family
members are to undergo quarantine or self-isolation.
(UPDATE 13/4/20: The Premier said the number was 1,000 staff
plus their families, making up to 4,500 people altogether.)
The new restrictions on north west businesses will apply for the
next 14 days.

coronavirus death toll has risen to five with the death of a
woman in her 70s.
Overnight, a further eleven coronavirus cases, all in the north
west, took the state's total to 133.
